Veneers are a great way to immediately improve the overall look of one’s smile and correct certain dental flaws. They consist of thin wafer-like shells that are applied over the front surface of a person’s teeth, and they can instantly hide noticeable defects like crooked and misshapen teeth, chipped or damaged teeth and teeth that are uneven. Because of their general simplicity, natural appearance, and strong versatility, veneers are rapidly becoming one of the most popular forms of cosmetic dental treatments available today.
Veneers have many applications in dentistry, including:
- Adjusting tooth color and size
- Correcting misshapen and crooked teeth
- Repairing teeth that are chipped or damaged
After veneers have been applied, they are almost completely invisible, providing an appearance of healthy, white tooth enamel. Because veneers are constructed from special materials, they are not prone to staining from tobacco products or dark-colored beverages like coffee, wine or juice. When cared for properly, a set of veneers should last up to a decade. And since our practice features a 3-shape digital scanner, there’s no need for traditional impressions when creating a set of customized veneers.
When applying veneers, we start by shaving off a small amount of tooth enamel on any tooth that is designated for treatment. This is done to accommodate for the space that the veneers will take up inside the mouth. Next, an etching solution is applied to the teeth in order to roughen their outer surfaces and help the veneers to bond with the teeth. The veneers are then applied on the front surface of the teeth and secured using a special dental adhesive.
